General: Symptoms of legionnaires' disease

Legionnaires' disease can have symptoms like many other forms of pneumonia, so it can be hard to diagnose at first. Signs of the disease can include: a high fever, chills, and a cough. Some people may also suffer from muscle aches and headaches. Chest X-rays are needed to find the pneumonia caused by the bacteria, and other tests can be done on sputum (phlegm), as well as blood or urine to find evidence of the bacteria in the body.

John Macfarlane, Professor of Respiratory Medicine at the University of Nottingham, discusses the medical, social and legal implications of the disease.

Barcelona.(EFE).- Innovaciones científicas que se inspiran en la naturaleza y en sus cuatro millones de años de experiencia, denominada biomémesis o biomimetismo, se presentan como el inicio de una tercera revolución humana tras el hallazgo del fuego y la revolución industrial del siglo XIX. Así lo han afirmado hoy el director del área de medio ambiente y ciencia de la Obra Social La Caixa, Jorge Wagensberg, junto con la investigadora norteamericana Janine Benyus, impulsora del biomimetismo, y el empresario Gunter Pauli, fundador de Zero Emissions Research and Initiatives de Japón, en una rueda de prensa en Barcelona.
